Lighting plans that win jobs: why customers say yes to a picture

30 July 2026 · 4 min read · robot® Plan

Two electricians quote the same new build. One sends a neat, written quote: 24 downlights, 6 switches, LED strip to the kitchen kickboard, a number at the bottom. The other sends the same number — attached to the customer's own floor plan, with every downlight placed, the switches marked at 1300mm, and the LED strip glowing along the kickboard.

Same job. Same price. The second one gets the call, and usually gets asked "what would it cost to do the alfresco too?"

The picture does the selling

A written quote makes the customer evaluate a price. A lighting plan makes them evaluate their home. Once someone has seen their bedroom with bedside pendants and a dimmer, deleting them feels like losing something they already had. That's not a trick — it's just giving people a real basis for the decision, and it reliably grows the job.

It also protects you

Every dispute you've ever had about "I thought that included the outdoor lights" dies when the plan is the record. The customer approved a drawing with pins on it. Variations are visible: here's the plan you accepted, here's the one with the extra circuits, here's the difference in price.

Minutes, not evenings

This used to be the problem — drawing plans was CAD work. With modern electrical plan software you drop in the builder's PDF, place products by dragging them on, and the software counts everything into a bill of materials and a quote. A whole house is a 15–20 minute job, and the step-by-step videos show the entire flow.

robot® Plan was built by an electrical contractor because nothing on the market did this simply. Try it on a real plan, free — the first one usually sells itself to whoever you show it to.
