How to quote electrical work faster (without dropping your price)
6 August 2026 · 5 min read · robot® Plan
The most expensive part of most electrical quotes isn't the materials or the labour — it's the three evenings the quote sat half-finished on the kitchen table while the customer got two other prices.
Speed wins work. Not because customers are impatient (they are), but because the first professional, itemised quote sets the anchor every other quote gets compared against. Here's the workflow that gets quotes out same-day.
1. Price the catalogue once, not every quote
If you're typing "supply and install downlight" with a price for the hundredth time, that's the leak. Build a pricing library — every product and labour item you commonly quote, priced once, at your rates. In robot® Quote you can import it straight from a CSV (or from Simpro's export), part numbers included.
2. Quote from the walkthrough, not from memory
The best time to build the quote is while the job is in front of you. Walk the rooms, place items on a plan or tick them off the library, and the itemised draft exists before you're back in the ute. What's left at home is a five-minute review, not a two-hour build.
3. Let the software do the maths
Good electrical quoting software handles the part humans get wrong at 9pm: quantities times rates, sections subtotalled, tax added, deposit schedule split. Set a discount and it recalculates everything. Add an optional extra and the customer can tick it themselves — with the total updating live in front of them.
4. Send a link, not an attachment
A web quote the customer opens on their phone — with photos of the actual products, sections they can expand, and an Accept button — converts better than a PDF in an inbox. You also see when they've opened it, which is exactly when to call.
5. Make accepting frictionless
The customer taps accept, signs with their finger, and it's done — draft invoices in your Xero, job in your job system, deposit request on its way. No "I'll print it and drop it back to you".
